Ok, I don’t know what calling cards you have in Australia, but I have used calling cards in many countries (USA, UK, Spain, Italy, Greece) and I figure they all work the same.
The card should have an access number: many have a ‘free phone number’ (like 0800 in the UK or 1-800 in the US) where you will not be charged for access(unless your mobile company charges you for accessing free numbers). They also usually have a local access number, on which you pay as for making a local call, but if you have unlimited minutes or free local calls, this will be a better option as you will get more minutes.
Do not use a calling card from a public telephone, because they usually have a surcharge and it will quickly eat up yor minutes. The calling card swork best if used from a landline, but you CAN use them from a mobile, just check to make sure what additional charges apply.
