Skiing in Austria
One of the most sought countries in the world durring the winter season is Austria. Tousands of tourists arrive here each year, enjoying perfect skiing and snowboarding conditions. The ski resorts are countless.
Some of the resorts that atract most tourists are Bad Gastein – Ski Amade, Bad Kleinkirchheim, Hochkonig – Mulbach, Innsbruck, Ischgl, Kaprun – Zell am See, Kitzbuhel, Nassfeld, Salzburger Sportwelt – Ski Amade, etc.
Innsbruck
Innsbruck was the host of the Olympic Games in 1964 and 1976. For this reason a large infrastructure development was needed, improoved ski slopes and better accomodation. Today Innsbruck it is still developing.
The ski region Innsbruck receives it’s visitors in one of the charming towns of Axamner Lizum, Glunzeger, Patscherkofel, Seegrube or near the iceberg Stubai. Since 1994 two other resorts were aded: Kuhtai and Oberperfuss, so that the whole length of the slopes measures 320 km, disposing of 75 cable transport facilities.
The nearest resort can be reached in 15 minutes by skibus (free of charge for skipass owners) and the furthest resort in 60 minutes.
The standard skipass for 8 days has the most convenient price in Europe, related to the high quality of the services.
Innsbruck is the cockaigne of snowboarders. Austria’s best snowboarders are training here.
Kitzbuhel
The Kitzbuhel region is known especially for Male Contest for the World Cup. The Hahnenkamm race contest in an old tradition here. There are 148 km of slopes at an altitude of 800 – 2000 m, disposing of 53 cable transport facilities.
The longest slope has a length of almost 7 km, with a difference of altitude of 1000 m.
The Skibus and the parking places are free of charge in the whole region, excepting the ones near Hahnenkamm.
The winter season starts in Decembre and ends in April.
Kaprun – Zell am See
Europa Sportregion is one of the best reknown and performant ski region in Salzburg. Three close resorts can be found here: Zell am See – Schmittenhohe, Kaprun – Maiskogel and the iceberg Kitzsteinhorn.
Zell am See – Schmittenhohe
There is a network of 75 km of slopes, disposing of 28 cable transport facilities. The slope network can raise at an altitude of 2000 m, with a difference of 1000m in altitude.
Kaprun – Maiskogel
This litle cosy resort is welcoming tousands of tourists each year, enjoying the 15 km of slopes. It lays at an altitude of 766 – 1766 m.
Kitzsteinhorn Iceberg.
The iceberg offeres unlimited possibilities for snowboarding and carving skiing. Overall 40 km of slopes, carefully prepaired for beginners and advanced ski runners. For pros there are also slopes with moguls of different sizes and special tracks.
Zillertal – Tux
Zillertal – Tux is the largest ski and snowboarding region from the Ziller valley. Zell, Gerlos, Hippach, Konigsleiten/Wald and Hochkrimml-Gerlosplatte are the beautiful resorts in this region that captivate tourists with their unique charm.
The Gerlos resort is regarded as the largest and most modern ski resort in Austria. At the peak of the winter season there can be up till 20 000 tourists, skirunners and snowboarders, enjoying the cosynes of more than 40 bars and restaurants after an exhausting day on the slopes.
